Breast lift is for those who have small
sagging breasts can benefit from a breast lift but breasts
of heavy size will not get a last long benefit.
If you plan to have more children, it might
be better to postpone your breast lift operation. In
case you decide to do it now, there are no special risks that
affect future pregnancy as breast lift usually does not interfere
with breast-feeding.
Results
Your surgeon will do his best to make your
scars as small as possible but it is important to remember
that breast lift scars are extensive and permanent. They often
remain lumpy and red for months, and then they will gradually
become less obvious and fade into thin white lines. The scars
are made at the place where you can wear low-cut tops.
Possible Risks
All operations have some risks. The possible
risks are divided into two groups. In the first group, the
main risks are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a
scar and numbness or change in sensation. The second group,
which is rare, is a damaged to the blood supply of the nipple
and a heavy scar. Breast-feeding may not be possible after
surgery. Breast reduction does not increase the risk of breast
cancer and indeed may slightly decrease the risk.
Side Effects
You might feel numb on the surgery spot
and it may last six weeks to six months. You
might also feel sharpness or burning or other sensations at
the area which is common during the healing process.
Under wire bra should be avoided until you do not feel those
irritations.
After Care
After surgery, you will be wrapped in elastic
bandage or a gauze dressings or surgical bra. A small tube
may be placed in each breast to drain blood and fluids for
the first day or two. The extent of the post-operative swelling
and bruising is depending on whether you tend to bruise or
swell easily. The degree that you can expect varies for each
individual but past surgery or injuries should be a good indication.
Applying cold compresses or ice packs will reduce swelling
and relieve discomfort. Many patients use a watertight plastic
sandwich bag filled with frozen berries or peas. Regular icing
is the key to relieving swelling.
The bandages will be removed a day or two after surgery, though
you will continue wearing the surgical bra around the clock
for several weeks, until the swelling and bruising subsides.
In most cases, stitches will be removed in one to three weeks.
Sometimes the surgeon will use only dissolvable sutures. If
breast skin is very dry following surgery, moisturizer can
be applied several times a day, but the suture area must be
kept dry at all times.
